This morning, a beautiful person met me for a walk at Riverview. It was funny because as we were pulling up, we both realized there was a race there, so as we were walking one way, people were racing past us in the opposite direction, which we both found comical. It was so good to meet with her and talk to her. She’s so smart and funny, and it’s always a pleasure to talk to her because we both care about each other and appreciate each other’s humor. She gave me wings for the marathon of a day today.
After waking up early to walk with her, I had a chance to be with Papa.
As I walked in, I noticed both that he was super awake and that he looked super sad. It was almost like he was very aware of the situation he was in and felt the sadness associated with that recognition.
He still tried to encourage the doctor. As she was saying that his left arm and leg was stronger, his face carried the same sadness, but he gave her a thumbs up almost like he was encouraging her. He wanted to be polite.
It hurt to see him like that, but then Megan the physical therapist showed up and soon he was sitting up using his core with her support behind him, eating the smoothie I was feeding him, too concentrated on the dual goals of sitting up and eating. He finished the whole smoothie, gave Megan a high five, and then rested until it was time for the daily news. Then, one of his friends came at the same time as the speech therapist, so that was a great boon because he could talk about what he wanted to – a real conversation with his friend – and speech flowed better. Thank goodness for all involved.
Soon, I had to leave, and took care of various things with my mom’s friend who helped me get ready for the church service tonight. The middle child had a game which we truly enjoyed, and then we ate and saw my aunt very briefly. She’s getting ready for the church service tonight. Speaking of which, it’s time for me to get ready, too! Thank goodness for a good day.
