So, my youngest is going to be a gorilla for Trunk or Treat. He found his costume at an antique store, and it cost him all of eight dollars. He will be putting on his gorilla suit and may or may not be acting like a gorilla.
As I was driving to church today, a pastor on the radio was talking about putting on Christ as you would put on a leather jacket. Then, during the service, our own priest was talking on putting on Christ, and I looked at the huge icon of Jesus and literally imagined my son putting on His robes. Putting on the clothes or costume of Jesus.
Now, don’t worry. We are not going as Jesus to the Trunk or Treat event. But I am talking about daily life. I am talking about putting on Christ on the daily. I am talking about Romans 13:14: “Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
and I am talking about
Galatians 3:27: “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
When I am at the high school where I teach, it is easy to listen to how a few people are talking in the hallway and start to put that on, so to speak. To act like that. And that’s not right. I have to put on the robes of Christ, I have to remind myself to act like Jesus. What would Jesus do in this situation? How would he act? More specifically, what would he say?
I want to be more like Jesus. To do that, may I put on Jesus every day this week, and ask the intercession of the Holy Spirit to help me act right now matter what costume people around me put on. It’s all right, guys. See these robes? It’s Jesus and just for the next 24 hours, I will do my best to act like Him, all glory be to God!
