When one is at the end of a rope or weighed down by the burden of one’s cross, it’s tempting to say all is lost. The kids are hyped up on Easter Egg sugar and overstimulated by play dates and parties. The baby is walking non-stop, exploring his world as we try to make it as safe as possible, running around after him like a wind-up toy. We feel tired, so we turn our eyes to Easter. Joy is right around the corner!
But we have to face that it’s not Easter yet. Now we are hurting. Now we feel let down (and I’m not just talking about nursing).
Sometimes a dream has to die in order for us to experience our resurrection. Our hopes for a perfect kid, a restored relationship, a great place to house our hopes and aspirations. Sometimes one dream has to die for a new dream to be born.
What is on your cross right now? What do we have to let go? What doesn’t make sense anymore? What is bringing you down? As we put that at the feet of God, can we ask for a new dream? Can we boldly come in front of God and ask for what we want and need? Can we trust God to deliver? Can we trust God that Easter is coming?
Yes, we can. At least, we can try. We can stand in agreement that God is good and he cares for us. He sacrificed himself for us. He’s got our back. He loves us. He showed it in His words and in His actions. We can trust Him. Just one moment at a time.
