Psalm 27 (28)
Of David
To you, O Lord, I cry.
O my God, may You not pass over me
In silence.
May You never be silent to me,
Else I would become like those who go
Down into the pit.
Hear the voice of my supplication
When I pray to You
And when I lift up my hands toward
Your holy temple.
May You not associate my soul with
Sinners,
Nor destroy me with the works of injustice,
Who speak peace with their neighbor,
But evil is in their hearts.
Give them according to their works;
According to the wickedness of their
Pursuits;
Give them according to the works of
their hands;
Return to them their due reward.
Because they do not understand the
Works of the Lord,
Nor the deeds of His hands,
You will destroy them, and never
Rebuild them.
Blessed is the Lord,
Because He heard the voice of my
Supplication.
The Lord is my helper and my
Champion;
In Him my heart hoped, and I was
Helped,
And my flesh revived;
And I will give thanks to Him willingly.
The Lord is the strength of His people,
And the protector of the salvation of
His anointed.
Save your people, and bless Your
Inheritance;
And shepherd them, and raise them up
Forever.
Commentary from Orthodox Study Bible
Ps 27 is a prophecy concerning the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and the inheritance he won for himself, which is the Church. Thus, in his death on the cross, Jesus destroyed death and Hades, for He is God the Word, to whom the Father was not silent. And on the cross, the Lord’s outstretched hands were lifted up towards the Father’s holy temple, which is the inheritance. Also, his death destroyed the devil and his angels. Therefore blessed is God the Father for raising Christ from the dead, and for protecting the salvation of His people, and also for shepherding them in this world and resurrecting them in the world to come.

Thanks for your patience with me as I needed a break from this, but I am back. I love the verse that reads “the Lord is my helper and my champion.” In this psalm, David prays for himself and thanks God for helping him. I find such comfort in being able to pray. I can’t say it’s always easy because sometimes I let the cares of the world overwhelm me instead of bringing them to God, who really is my champion. God, thank you for “hearing the voice of my supplication,” and for shepherding me.
I was thinking yesterday that I feel like I am shepherding our newcomers but who is shepherding me? God, my family, and my friends. But most of all, I am grateful for the Great Shepherd who takes care of me. The Great Shepherd who shepherds all of us in his grace and mercy and loving kindness.
