Psalm 15 (16)
A pillar inscription; by David
Preserve me, O Lord, because I hope in
You.
I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
You have no need of my good things.”
To the saints on His earth,
In them He magnified all His will.
Their diseases were multiplied;
They hastened after these things;
I will not join in their assemblies of blood,
Nor will I remember their names with
My lips.
The Lord is the portion of my
Inheritance and my cup;
You are He who restores my
Inheritance to me.
Portions fell to me among the best,
And my inheritance is the very
Finest.
I will bless the Lord who caused me to understand;
Moreover, until night my reins also
Instructed me.
I saw the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand, that I
May not be shaken.
Therefore my heart was glad,
And my tongue rejoiced exceedingly;
My flesh also shall dwell in hope.
For You will not abandon my soul to
Hades
Nor allow Your Holy One to see
Corruption.
You made known to me the ways of
Life;
You will fill me with gladness in Your
Presence.
At Your right hand are pleasures
Forevermore.
Commentary
Ps 15, similar to Ps 14, teaches the Church the transfigured life in the Person of God incarnate, who assumed the weakness of mortal flesh (but without sin) for the sake of the inheritance which is “the world to come” (Creed). And as Man, He interceded to the Father on behalf of the Church, (1) to preserve those who hope in the Father; (2) to magnify His will in them amid the fallen world; (3) to enlighten them; (4) that they should keep their eyes on the Father; (5) that they should hope in the resurrection from the dead, because the soul of Jesus was not left in Hades, nor did his body decay in the grave, and therefore, they should not fear death; for He was raised from the dead for the sake of their life “in the world to come” (Creed).
Psalm 15:3 is often used in the services of the church to honor the saints.

Preserve us and fill us with gladness in your presence. You are our cup. Thank you for your overwhelming goodness in our lives.
Jesus, thank you for a wonderful day yesterday at the zoo. To see cheetahs and monkeys and hippos and giraffes—-you are so good to us. Thank you for that time to be outside and explore the world without ever leaving the state. We were definitely filled with gladness. Thank you!
