This week is Holy Week, a very special week. We remember that God loved us so much that he gave his Son for us so we may be saved. We remember that Christ died and was resurrected on the third day.
What are you thinking about this week?
Mostly, I am amazed by how much God loves us. God’s ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. For me, the story of Jesus and the thief on the cross stands out.
Here is a criminal, a thief, a person who stole someone else’s belongings. He should be punished, right? Judged. Condemned. Foreva! But this thief recognizes Jesus. This thief humbles himself and asks Jesus simply to remember him. What does Jesus say? Does he say, “Sure, buster, I’ll remember you?”
No, he says that the thief will be with Him in paradise!
Say what?
Jesus responds with overwhelming, undeserved, totally awesome love!
Jesus loves to save us. To redeem us and to give us hope.
Jesus loves to save people who feel like they are past their prime. He loves us as we are now.
It’s beyond my comprehension. We are supposed to love people this way. We are supposed to be like Jesus, but to love this way, we need His help. What a miracle to bless those who wronged us. What a joyous triumph of the Spirit of God!
I don’t understand how this is possible, but I have seen it, and I thank God for His love! I don’t get it, but when I see God’s love in this world, I am blown away.
Thanks to a recommendation from my friend, I heard a sermon by a Coptic priest. I could tell he loves this way. It shouldn’t be possible. But with God, all things are possible. Praise be to God! Thank you, Jesus.
