Happy Mother’s Day!
I was thinking today how the kids challenge me to be more patient. Some days I fail. Some days I succeed. Success comes more often when other people are there to shoulder the energy of three lively children. Because of wonderful people in my life, today was “one of the best days of my life.” 😉 My daughter wrote that in my Mother’s Day card, and her wish came true!
But it didn’t start out that way. Honestly, this morning I felt frustrated because the only thing I had asked for—“please, no clothes on the floor”—was not done. But so much WAS done! The kids put streamers around my door. They created and hung a Happy Mother’s Day banner. Sasha wrote the kindest, most thoughtful card. She brought me Cheerios in bed! Andy wrapped the presents so nicely! And I loved what they chose (they asked for $10 to spend at Kohl’s)—-face mask, lip balm, and chocolate! A present from each kid.
Once we got to church, I saw one of my best friends of all time, Eve! She was visiting from San Francisco. Oh, I was so happy to see her!!! After church my family had a wonderful lunch at our favorite place and then I got a text from another good friend to see Penguins. Why not? Nothin beats a movie on a rainy day! After we got out, I saw a cute little kiosk outside the theater selling gorgeous pottery with a baby succulent inside—perfect for my mom and my aunt. We drove and gave our presents and it turned out that my family took the time to get me a very beautiful present, and then we went home. Guess what? The kids (finally!) cleaned up their rooms because. . . Greggy was coming! My boyfriend came over to cook Tikka masala and I mean the kids where still there, in the middle of everything! I told him they were definitely testing the efficacy of his blood pressure medicine! But he was SO patient, much more patient than me. I watched TBN and talked to Sasha while the boys remarked how “the water was almost bubbling. . . Look at the bubbles! It’s almost bubbling now” for what felt like two life times. The dinner was delicious, and then we watched Mary Poppins while eating strawberries and whipped cream. After Greggy went home, we washed and played around with different hair styles. All kids in bed by 8! Woohoo! That’s why I am finally writing again—-I have the time and I WANT to!
So, yes, Sasha, by the grace of God, today really was one of the best days of my life! Thank God!
